Rinse the beans and place in the pot with 8 cups of water and soak overnight (at least 8 hours).
Drain the water the beans were soaking in over night and set to the side.
Turn the Instant Pot to sauté and allow the pot to heat up.
Add oil to pot and sauté garlic and onion until translucent, turn Instant Pot to keep warm setting
Add your can of tomatoes and mix
Next add your drained beans, chopped ham, seasoning package, chili powder and salt salt and pepper to taste to mixture and mix well.
Add 8 cups of fresh water and give another stir.
Close Instant Pot and move steam valve to seal
Set to the Soup/Broth setting at high pressure and your time should automatically set to 59 minutes
Allow the soup to naturally release for at least 10 minutes, stir and enjoy
